Volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games are accredited personnel recruited and managed by BOCOG (the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad), who take proper responsibilities, work at the time and in the position designated by BOCOG in service to the Beijing Olympics Games without payment.
Basic Requirements. A volunteer should
1) Be voluntary to serve the Beijing Olympic games;
2) Be in good health, and born no later than June 30, 1990;
3) Abide by China's laws and regulations;
4) Able to participate in the pre-Games trainings and related activities;
5) Able to serve for more than seven days running during the Olympic Games;
6) Be able to communicate in foreign language(s) if he/ she is a native Chinese; or be able to engage in Chinese conversations if his/ her first language is a foreigner;
7) Possess professional knowledge and skills necessary for the posts.
Content of Training. A volunteer will receive
1) General training: basic Olympic knowledge, brief introduction to the Beijing Olympic Games, Chinese history and traditional culture, history and cultural in Beijing life, knowledge and skills necessary to serve the disabled, etiquette norm, medical knowledge and first-aid skills, etc.
2) Professional training: professional knowledge and skills required in voluntary services.
3) Venue training: venue functions, knowledge concerning the sports held in the venue, internal facilities, organizational structure, rules and regulations, etc.
4) Job training: job responsibilities, specific works, business procedures, etc.
Way of training. A volunteer can be trained through
1) Long-distance training: online training, media (including TV, broadcasting) training and correspondence training;
2) Face-to-face training;
3) Practical training: participating charitable activities, special events and test matches.
