常用商务英语词汇的用法

1.accept v. 接受,承兑
We cannot accept your offer; the price is too high.

We believe our price is reasonable. Please do your utmost to accept as it will lead to further business.

acceptable adj. 可接受的

The offer is not acceptable to them.

The quality is acceptable, but the time of shipment is not acceptable.

注意acceptable不是肯定接受的意思,因此,接受报盘应说:

A. Your offer is accepted.
B. Your offer is acceptable.


2. accordingly adv. 因此,于是,所以(在句首或句子中间);
按照要求(办、做)(在句尾)
Accordingly, we have to ask you to extend your offer 3 days.

We have amended the credit accordingly.

3.account n. 帐,帐户,帐目;理由,原因;考虑
for the account of … (出或收某人的帐) for one’s account (由某人支付)

We bought the goods for the account of Messrs. Peterson & Co.

The additional charges are to be for your account.

4.account v. 解释,说明;占(多少数量百分比)(后接介词for)
The sales representatives have to account for all their expenses to the sale manager.

Rubber accounts for 70% of their exports.


5.advance n. v. 垫款、预付;事先;上涨

They must give seven days advance notice of withdrawals from the account.

6.affiliate n. 分支机构,联号
We have affiliates in all European markets.

7.agency n. 代理
The company has agencies in all parts of Africa.

8.appreciate v. 涨价;感谢 (后接名词或动名词作宾语);意识到,懂得,理解
The price has appreciated.

Your immediate attention will be appreciated.

appreciation n. 感谢,感激

9.available a. 可利用的,可供应的,可得到的
作定语时,前置后置均可,以后置为普遍

We will ship by the first steamer available (or: the first available steamer) next month.

10.award n. 判决,裁决
The award of the arbitration is in favour of sellers (buyers).

The arbitration award is final and binding on both Parties.

award v. 判给,裁决

The arbitrators awarded the sellers (buyers) £500 as damages.

All cost for the arbitration will be awarded against the defendant.

11.balance n. 差额,余额
We will draw on you for the balance of RMB¥75.

We expect to hip the balance of 15 tons by the next steamer available.

12.bear v. 负担
Extra expenses are to be borne by you.

bear out 证实

A trial of the goods will bear out our statement.

Bear on (upon) 和……有关;对……有影响

We are studying all the facts that bear on (upon) this particular case.

13. beneficiary n. 受益人
The beneficiary of the L/C is to be China National Light Industrial Products Impor & Export Corporation, Nanjing.

14.benefit n. 年薪,养老金,保险赔偿费
He receives fifty dollars a week as unemployment benefit.

15.book n. 账册,记录
We are glad that we have put the business to book.

[注] put to book 登记入帐=达成交易

book v. 把……记载入册;预定
We are instructed by our clients to book no more than 100 tons.

We have booked shipping space on s.s “…”

book with you 从你方买进
We are glad that we have booked with you150 bicycles.

16. business n. 商号;事情(可数名词)
There are many businesses in this town, engaged in the trade.

We have three businesses to talk over with your representative.

17.call n. 停靠;需要(用于否定句)
For this steamer, Liverpool is not a port of call.

There is no call for us to adjust the price.

call (at) ph. v. 停靠
This steamer will call at your port.

call (for) ph. v. 要求,需要
The wording of the agreement calls for some revision.

The L/C calls for shipment by direct steamer.

18.capacity n. 容量;能力,生产(设备)能力
The capacity of the vessel is ... tons.

The freight space is filled to capacity.

19.charge v. n. 收费;把……记入帐册;指控,控告
You may charge us the expenses incurred.

20.claim n. 索赔;收汇
We have already raised a claim against the insurance company for $210 for (on account of) damage in transit.

21.collect v. 收集;索取; collection n. 托收;托收款
We are unable to collect the charges from the buyers.

22. commitment n. 所承诺的事;所承担的责任(按合同应履行者)
Owing to heavy commitments, we cannot accept fresh business at present.

23.concern n, 商号,公司
这里concern与firm, house, company, business等词一般同义。
We hope business will develop rapidly between our two concerns.

as concerns= as to 关于
As concerns commission, 3% is the maximum we can do.

concerned adj. 有关的(一般放在所修饰的名词后面)

24.confirm v. 确认,证实,
常用在外贸书信的开头,表示证实自己的去信(电)或收到对方的来信(电)。
We confirm receipt of your cable of the 5th.

We confirm our (your) cable of the 5th regarding Dried Egg Products.

25.consign v. 运送,寄售
We cannot agree to consign the goods.

consignment n. 运送,运送的货物;寄售,寄售的货物
On consignment (以)寄售(方式)
Generally, we do not sell goods on consignment terms.

consignee n. 收货人(=receiver, i.e. one who receives the goods)
consignor n. 发货人(=shipper, i.e. one who ships the goods)

26. cover v. 保险,投保。及物动词,
宾语除可为所保的货物和投保的险别外,还可以是insurance和被保险人。
We shall cover the goods against all risks.

covering (动词cover的现在分词)包括的……的,涉及……的,有关……的
We shall appreciate samples covering your offer.

27. credit n. v. 贷方,支方,赊买,信用;记入待付
We have placed the sum to your credit.

28.deliver v. 交货
The quantity to be delivered each month must not be less than 50 metric tons.

delivery n. 交付,交货
When we made delivery, the goods were in perfect condition.

We will take delivery of the goods as soon as they are released from the Customs.




29.discount n. /v. 折扣;贴现;打折扣
The highest discount we can allow on this article is 10%.


Bill can be easily discounted in London.

30. dishonor v. 拒绝支付
We are informed by the Bank of China that our draft for DM785 on clean collection has been dishonored.


31. draw v. 开出(汇票)
draw a draft on sb. for… 向某人索取若干金额之汇票
We have drawn a clean draft on you for the balance of $100.


draw 也可以接介词against
As agreed, we will draw on you at sight against your purchase of a sample lot.


下面两个句子讲到汇票的方式和期限
We cannot agree to draw at 30 days D/A. (D/A = document s against acceptance)

We will draw D/P (D/A) against your purchase.

32. due a. 到期的;应付的;适当的
This remittance is in payment of all commissions due (to) you up to date.


due to 由于(形容词和副词短语)
The delay of the steamer is due to heavy storm.

33.dumping n. 倾销
Prices have down slided owing to dumping operations.

The dumping operations have upset our plans.

34.endorse v. 背书;批准;赞同
Please cable us as soon as your application for import license has been endorsed.

The quality of this product has been widely endorsed.

endorsement n. 背书;赞同;变更保险范围的条款(批条)
Our products have met with wide endorsement.

We are sending you herewith the requested endorsement to the policy.

35.engage v. 答应,保证;从事于,忙于(通常用被动语态,后接介词in)
We are engaged in both export and import business.

36.establish v. 建立;开立;使立足于……
The relevant L/C has already been established.

37.execute v. 执行(订单)
Please do your utmost to execute this order as it will lead to other business.

All your orders booked up to date have been executed.

38.expire v. 期满
The L/C expires on November 30.

39.favor n. / v. 欢迎,赞许;有利于
The opportunity does not favor our making a binding arrangement.

Chinese commodities have enjoyed growing favor among buyers abroad.

40. firm a. 确定的,有效的
The offer is firm (for) 3 days.

combined offer 搭配报盘
This is a combined offer, which must be accepted in its entirety.

counter-offer 还盘
Counter-offer is useless.

firm offer 实盘
With firm offer from us, at what price do you think you could close?

lump offer 综合报盘
This is a lump offer; you must accept all or none.

41.gain n./v. 利益,盈余,利润;(价格)上涨;获得;赢得
Gains and losses are common in business.

42.goods n. 货物,不指一件商品,永远用复数形式,不能和数词连用
The goods enquired for are not available at present.

43.grant v. 答应,准许给予
It is difficult to grant your request.

Please cable us your firm order as soon as permission to import (import license) is granted.

44.grant n. / v. 赠款,专用拨款;给予
The government has allocated grants to the project.

The local government granted the factory and interest-free loan to build up a waste-water treatment station.

45.gross n. 罗=12打 (复数不变); adj. 毛的,总的;显著的

46.guarantee n. 担保 (保证履行义务,如被保人不履行,由担保人负责);保证

We always honor our promise (contract, commitments).

49.installment n. 分期付款
How many installments did it take to pay off the loan?


用于分批装运时:
We did not buy the goods on installment basis. We want the goods shipped in one lot.

50.insurance n. 保险
We have covered insurance on the 100 metric tons of wool for 10% of the invoice value against all risks.

insure v. 保险,投保
Please insure the goods against all risks and war risk.

insurer n. 保险人,承保人,一般可与insurance company 通用。

51.issue v. 发出
We have arranged with our bankers to issue an L/C in your favour.

52.item n. 此次在外贸业务中常用来代表前面所说的货物,作“项目”解,它本身并无货物的意思。
We are working on the other items and will wire (you) as soon as possible.

They are trying to make a monopoly of this commodity.

58.necessity n. 必需,必要(在表示有必要做某事时,一般和介词of连用;或接动词不定式)
You must subordinate other considerations the necessity of observing the terms agreed.

We do not see the necessity of sending any goods on consignment.

59.oblige v. 答应请求;迫使;使感激(陈旧的客套语)
We are sorry we cannot oblige you in this respect.

Circumstances oblige buyers to wait and see.

60.offer n./v. 报盘,发盘,报价,开价

counter-offer v./n. 还盘

61.order n. (后面一般接介词for,或接of),订单,订购;所订的货

We regret to say that after long months of negotiation, this problem is still outstanding.

They are known to be faithful in the performance of their obligations (commitments).
